We can confirm that the camp will go ahead as planned on December 29/30/31 and will consist of a mixture of training and exhibition games. Below is an overview of the relevant information:
Hotel
The hotel for the camp will be the Holiday Winter Haven (https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/gb/en/winter-haven/cypcg/hoteldetail/hotel-room-rates#)
There is a group rate of $139 per room (max 4 to a room). We are still waiting for the hotel to issue us with the link to book the discounted rate, however, you can call the hotel directly to make your booking using the below details (should we get this link we will forward it on immediately, but we would advise calling to book in the meantime).
Holiday Inn Winter Haven
200 Cypress Gardens Blvd, Winter Haven, FL 33880, United States
Telephone: +1 863-292-2100
Reference – Irish Softball
We are not requiring players to stay at the hotel, if you and your family would like to make other arrangements.
Training Facilities
We have coupled with Polk County Sports Commission to arrange access to Polk State Athletics Softball facility for the duration of the training camp (https://www.polkeagles.com/facilities/Diamond_Plex).
Detailed schedules will be provided closer to the day but we intend on hosting morning and afternoon team training sessions on the 29th and 30th, followed by at least 1 exhibition game each evening. The 31st will consist of either a morning training session or a doubleheader. Family and friends are more than welcome to sit in the bleachers during the training sessions and are expected to cheer everyone on during the games!
Training Clothing
We will be in touch shortly with a link to confirm your sizes for training tops for the three days. We would ask players to bring their own navy/black pants (if you have them), batting helmets, bats and catchers gear.
Food
No great team can run on an empty stomach, the hotel rate includes Breakfast and we will arrange for lunch at the venue each day. Evening meals will be at players’ own expense and we will advise of the restaurant we plan on each evening.
Costing
Once we clarify the final cost of the clothing, we will provide you with a total cost (excluding accommodation) for the three days. We are hoping this will be relatively inexpensive as we are always conscious of the cost playing our sport can impose, and don’t believe any player should miss out on the opportunity to play internationally solely due to costs.
