Italian Coach Enrico Obletter has passed away

Fastpitch Ireland are saddened to learn of the death of the Italian National team head coach Enrico Obletter.

Enrico will be remembered as a great coach and even better person and will be dearly missed by everyone in Softball and by us in Fastpitch Ireland.

The thoughts of everybody in Fastpitch Ireland are with Enrico’s wife Giovanna, his family, his players and FIBS at this difficult time.

Safeguarding and Fastpitch Ireland

Fastpitch Ireland as a discipline of Softball Ireland have ratified the approval and addoption of the Softball Ireland Safeguarding Policy.

The Safeguarding tab under resources will take to you to the Safeguarding Hub, on this page you will find the Fastpitch Irleand (as a discipline of Softball Ireland) Safeguarding Policies (published 21st January 2021) and all the supporting documentation to keep children and young people safe while playing all disciplines of the sport of softball.

The creation of these policies have been mandated in law, so all clubs, regions and discipines in Ireland are required to familiarise themselves with the Safeguarding Policies and follow the guidance laid out within it.

Any safeguarding issues or concerns can be directed to our National Children’s Officer by emailing safeguarding@softball.ie.

COVID-19 Restrictions Update – February 2021

Island of Ireland Restrictions

In accordance with the restrictions as set out by the Northern Ireland Executive and the decision of the Irish Government set the Republic of Ireland to Level 5, all Softball activities inclusive of training continue to be suspended to at least March 5, 2021.

Please note that during this period no softball activities are covered by the Softball Ireland insurance policy. Please note that the suspension of activities inludes but is not limited to leagues, tournament, inter-team games, practices and training in any sized grouping.

Fastpitch Ireland woud encourage our members to follow all public health guidelines and continue to work together to reduce the spread of the virus.

Fastpitch Ireland continues to develop contingencies to support our national team players preparations and to host the Irish Fastpitch Leagus in 2021. The Executive Committee wishes continued good health to all our members and their families.

Ireland WNT Entry to Euro 2021 Confirmed

The Irish WNT has confirmed its entry to the 2021 Women’s European Championship (XXII) which will be held in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy from 27 June 2021 to 3 July 2021. Ireland’s participation is subject to COVID-19 conditions and government guidance.

The WNT are the number 8 seeds in the tournament following on from the 2019 tournament. A new tournament format will be introduced for the 2021 Championship. The top 8 teams from the last edition (2019) will enter the tournament Super Round directly. The remaining teams have been drawn into pools with the winners of each pool then joining the top 8 seeds in the Super Round. The Super Round pools A and B are based on standings of the previous championship.

The Irish WNT management team will continue to monitor the COVID-19 crisis and will liaise with the Softball Ireland Medical Committee and Irish health authorities before any final decision on Ireland’s participation is made in late February 2021.
